Open-Faced Sloppy Joes

There are so many ways to make sloppy joes that it is crazy!  So, don't be surprised if you find another recipe or two on here down the road.  Here is a healthy spin on a classic comfort food...be sure to grab a napkin or two...

What you will need...
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb lean ground beef (we use 93% lean)
  • 1/2 small yellow onion, diced
  • 3/4 can (14.5 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 1/2 tbsp burger seasoning or grill seasoning
  • 1 tbsp spicy brown mustard
Heat skillet with oil over medium-high heat.  Add beef, reduce heat to medium, and let it cook a few minutes before adding the diced onions, garlic, seasoning, and Worcestershire.  Give it all a nice toss and let the beef cook soak up the flavors.  Add the tomato soup, tomato paste, and mustard.  Cover a whole grain (we like Great Harvest 9-Grain) bread with the super duper sloppy joe goodness.  Goes great with onion and pickle on top, or just plain sloppy...YUM-OLA!!!

Sides to think about...We eat sweet potatoes most nights, and if we are having a sandwich type meal or burger, we like to toss sliced sweet potatoes with olive oil and papryka and bake at 450* for about 45 minutes (you could also do wedges).  And of course green beans make any "comfort" food complete.

How many people can eat...4 really sloppy people
